Sailing lessons
Never been on a sailboat, or just bought your first one? Lessons with Simon get you handling the boat yourself, with him right beside you.

You learn to sail by sailing. Lessons happen on the water from the first hour, with theory brought in when it makes sense of what you just did.
The river is a forgiving place to start. When you are ready, coastal and offshore skills follow: passage planning, night sailing, heavy weather and looking after the boat far from a dock.
What is included
- Boat handling: tacking, gybing, reefing and coming alongside a dock
- Sail trim and reading the wind on the water
- Rules of the road and basic navigation
- Safety: person overboard, weather, and what to do when things go wrong
- Lessons on your own boat, if you have one
What Simon needs from you
- How much sailing you have done, honestly
- Whether you have a boat, and what it is
- What you want to be able to do: day sail, race, cruise or go offshore
- The days and times that suit you
Questions
I have never sailed. Where do I start?
Right here. Say so when you get in touch and the first lesson starts from zero.
Can I learn on my own boat?
Yes, and it is often the best way, because you learn the boat you will actually be sailing.
Do lessons include the PCOC?
The PCOC test is run by accredited course providers. Simon can tell you where to take it.
Is it only on the river?
The river is where most people start. Coastal and offshore skills come next, when you are ready for them.
Tell Simon about your boat.
What she is, where she is, and what she needs. He will get back to you.
